Shelia Austin Minister of Music
Serving as the Music Director at Antioch has been and continues to be one of
the most fulfilling ventures in my life. The journey began in 1969 when we had
no music budget and the repertoire consisted of hymnals. I'm proud to say
today's budget allotment covers our needs quite adequately, and our music
library contains many anthems and musicals representing a variety of musical
styles.
Our music ministry includes a sanctuary choir for high school students
and adults, a youth ensemble for middle school students, a children's choir
for K-5th graders, and a preschool choir for 3 & 4 year olds.
Our church is blessed with talented and dedicated instrumentalists who
willingly share their musical talents in our worship services. We currently
employ an organist and pianist, and in addition have several volunteer
musicians who join our choirs for special services.
Antioch has been my home since I was about nine years old. I met my husband
here; we were married at Antioch and have reared our two daughters here. Now
we're very proud and happy to watch our grandchildren grow up in a nurturing
and loving church family.
One of the strengths of our church is an openness to new members. We pride
ourselves on being a friendly congregation, and we strive to quickly involve
new folks in the various ministries and activities of our church. We believe
God has a place for everyone to serve!
Although my professional vocation was in public education, God has graciously
allowed me to enjoy a second career as the volunteer music director at
Antioch. The blessings have been abundant, and the excitement of serving my
Lord has brought a life-time of inspirational experiences. What a joy it is
to serve such a wonderful God and such a loving people at this place called Antioch.
